Film Festival Volunteers

VOLUNTEER TASKS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL OCEAN FILM FESTIVAL

POP-UP CINEMA SET UP CREW (four volunteers)

Friday Oct 1:  3 pm to 5 pm

Assist with loading chairs from St. Mary’s Church Hall in Stonington Borough into a truck to transport them to the Velvet Mill. Move the chairs from the Truck to the cinema location in the Plaza area of the Mill


Saturday Oct 2:  8:30 am to 12 noon

Set up a tent and Stonington Volunteer table at the outdoor Farmer’s Market, and promote IOFF , working in partnership with Mystic Film Festival Volunteers. 


Saturday Oct 2:   9 am to 11 am

Setup entrance flags, set up information and ticket tables. Arrange chairs in the screening area.  If needed, assist in erecting the “pipe and drape” provided by Power Posse Productions.


Sunday Oct 3    6:30 pm to 8 pm

Bring in flags from entrances, dismantle, place them in storage bags and bring them to Verdie Birdie shop. Stack chairs and ready for transport back to return to St. Mary’s Church. Taking down flags, banners, tables. Break down information and ticket tables.


DOOR ENTRANCE GREETERS (three volunteers)

Three doors will serve as entrances for the film festival. Volunteers will be responsible for making sure the cloth FILM FESTIVAL flags are set up at each entrance and secured with a water-filled weight at its base to secure it from falling over. Greet attendees and direct them to “The Plaza.”

The three entrances are:

  1. The “main entrance” located by Zest bakery
  2. The “north entrance” (Farmers Market parking lot) off of Meadow Ave
  3. The Bayview Avenue entrance is by Elihu St, look for the Beer’d Brewery sign

Oct 2-3    Time: 10:30 am to 5:30 pm in 2-hour shifts


TICKET SALES / CHECK-IN  (three volunteers)

Two volunteers greet patrons at the ticket table and check off pre-paid tickets off a list.  Make change for cash customers, and use an iPad Point of Sale system (Square) to accept credit cards. Distribute the program, explain Covid Protocol (masks required in screening area) and provide each attendee with the paper survey and a pen.

The third volunteer acts as usher in the screening space and assists patrons should they need help with chairs.

Oct 2-3    Time: Half-hour shifts starting 30 minutes before screenings at 10:30, 1:30, and 4:30 both Saturday and Sunday.


INFORMATION TABLE ATTENDANTS (two volunteers)

These volunteers manage the Festival’s Information table that is set up with printed information about the partners and sponsors of the Festival inviting attendees to take anything they are interested in. 

Oct 2-3   Times:

 - 10am to 1pm, includes setting up the table with materials from a storage box.

 - 1pm to 3 pm

 -  3pm to 5pm Final shift clears table returning materials to storage box.
