HEAVY METAL: An American Pollution Story explores the haunting controversy behind a century of silver-lead-zinc mining in Idaho's panhandle and reveals the dangerous health impacts it left behind for its inhabitants. The Silver Valley region is slated to become the largest Superfund in the nation. However, with the ongoing presence of the Environmental Protection Agency, local residents blame the fall of what was once the largest mining district in the world against the federal government.
Move over Erin Brokovich, this heated story follows the lives of several individuals who will stop at nothing to deny the science in their hopes to get rid of the stigma and the EPA. It also reveals the courageous efforts behind the families and local activists who are caught in the middle as they fight to protect human health and wildlife, which suffers from the toxic poisons that plague the area.
