Life With Principle: Thoreau’s Voice in Our Time is an outstanding DVD-ROM presentation developed in cooperation with The Thoreau Society. Mel Hopper’s centerpiece film is a forthright, legible examination of the life and philosophical legacy of Henry David Thoreau, and the modern resonance of his perspective on individuality and personal choice.
Featuring interviews with noted modern minds such as Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky, who insightfully revisit the Thoreau message in a modern context, Life With Principle invokes both personal reflection and passionate discussion.
Developed for the modern student, this comprehensive DVD-ROM includes chapterization within the film and special features which align directly with the also-included Study Guide and Thoreau Curriculum. Allowing for great flexibility in classroom use, the 56-minute film can be screened in its entirety or incrementally according to its six thematic chapters, each of which corresponds to sections in both the Study Guide and Thoreau Curriculum.
Each section contains a short introduction about Thoreau’s ideas paired with contemporary interviews to spur discussion about the significance of those ideas to our own lives and choices. Respected teachers, educators, and scholars from 28 U.S. States collaborated to produce more than 100 pages of classroom material, including the following: 6 Curricula for the 6 thematic chapters of the Life With Principle film, a 16-page Study Guide, and a Scholarly Commentary by Dr. Bradley P. Dean. Also included is access to over sixty years of Thoreau studies and publications, via The Thoreau Society Bulletin archives.
In addition to these considerable educational supplements, all of which are accessible on this DVD via the web-enabled ROM functionality, the Life With Principle DVD also includes the following special features.
