Boiling Point II! The Global Climate Crisis w/ Hurricane Katrina [361]
OWN: $20.00 Synopsis: Climate Change is not just another issue in this complicated world of proliferating issues. It is the issue that, unchecked, will swamp all other issues. (Ross GelbspanThe Heat Is On).
Pulitzer Prize winner Ross Gelbspan, America's leading journalist on climate change, has added a special feature to his earlier DVD, Boiling Point: The Global Climate Crisis. In this special edition of his speech at the Mill Valley CA Community Center in December of 2004, we've added a new feature: "Hurricane Katrina," in which Ross links the intensification of storms in 2005 directly to global warming. He discusses evidence of the increasing intensity and frequency of large storms that has recently been verified and updated in the February, 2007 release of the new report on climate change by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The DVD is based on his latest work, Boiling Point, and incorporates his groundbreaking work from his first book, The Heat Is On. Ross's knowledge is encyclopedic and his speaking style is lyrical. He discusses the roles of Big Oil and Coal, Politicians, Self-interested Journalists, and Misguided Activists in fueling the climate crisis.
More importantly, however, he devotes significant time to his optimistic and increasingly realistic plan, "Rewiring The Planet." Several years ago I heard this plan described as "naive." Now it has the attention of several national governments, and elements of the plan are under serious consideration for adoption in Europe and elsewhere. The United States continues in a state of inertia and resistance to implementing controls on carbon dioxide emissions. This speech may inspire you to take action yourself. Please visit Ross's Website: HeatIsOnline.org, updated regularly, to see the progress the "Rewiring" project and many other powerful solutions to global warming are making. - M. Dietrick
