Its all about Hollywood this month The producers of HOLLYWOOD GREEN, a show on Discovery Channel's Planet Green contacted Green Planet Films for suggestions of films that contain celebrities engaged in eco activities. We sent down a few choices and they selected South Central Farm: Oasis in Concrete Desert by Dr. Sheila Laffey. South Central Farm focuses on farmer leaders Rufina Juarez and Tezozomac, as well as celebrity tree sitters such as Daryl Hannah, Joan Baez, John Quigley and Julia Butterfly Hill, plus other supporters such as Martin Sheen and Willie Nelson who brought international attention to the issue.

October 15, 2007 Today ED Suzanne Harle was interviewed by ReelScreen magazine about the state of science programming. Speaking of which, the winner of Best Science Program at the Jackson Hole Film Festival mentioned below, was ABC Australia's "CRUDE: The Incredible Journey of Oil". It a pivotal must-see program in line with 'An Inconvenient Truth'. Smart marketing would release this gem to the masses and pair it with the upcoming release of Daniel Day Lewis's new feature called THERE WILL BE BLOOD, a loose adaptation of author Upton Sinclair's 1927 novel Oil!. Lewis stars as an early oil prospector looking to turn a profit in turn-of-the-century Texas. Green Planet Films has 10 DVDs of CRUDE: The Incredible Journey of Oil (PAL version only).
October 7, 2007 We have a winner! HOW TO SAVE THE WORLD, won Best NonBroadcast production at the recent Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival. This is big! Not to worry, a broadcast version has been made.
September 11, 2007 Since Discovery recently announced the launch of their new initiative called Planet Green, we at Green Planet Films have had more activity on our site directed by keyword searches. We applaud how the Sundance Channel, LinkTV, and Lime Media have understood people ARE concerned and DO want to know more about their influence on the environment. And now having a major broadcaster like Discovery ponying up greenbacks to produce more original green programming (broadcast, web, and mobile) is a win-win for producers, audiences, and advertisers who are interested in the growing green space. We are a big fan of the newly acquired www.treehugger.com as well, especially since they wrote about us a while back!
August 28, 2007 We are working on a program with the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art and their Green Team for environmental film screenings in September.
August 24, 2007 ABC Australia has asked GPF to use footage we had Jensen Media shoot during the recent SF premiere of The Thin Green Line, part of the World Ranger Day event we partnered in. ABC has a series called "Australian Story" where they profile a person of interest. They will be profiling Sean Wilmore, the director of The Thin Green Line, who also masterminded the worldwide simultaneous screenings of the film, which documents the life and times, dangers and dedication amongst rangers around the world.

July 20, 2007 Green Planet Films was asked to participate in a GREEN DAY event for Travelocity's Business division in the UK. "We are organising a green day at work in order to advertise organic and eco-friendly products. We are aiming to show colleagues that living a green lifestyle is not as hard or expensive as they might think, and making information available to them about why and how and where products are available". We sent some information and DVDs to raffle off. They event was a success and "quite a few people have gone home and told their friends all about being green." travelocity-business.co.uk will be holding a charity auction of green items donated at the end of August.

October 24, 2006 ED Suzanne Harle was interviewed by Brandon and Touran, who are students at Terra Linda High School as part of a program they are participating in called YouthGive. "YouthGive is building partnerships with youth service organizations, schools, faith-based institutions, parent and civic organizations, community foundations, and other groups. Working with a wide network of partner organizations enables YouthGive to link the online experience to engagement opportunities for children, youth and families at a local community level." Brandon asked about Green Planet Films history, mission, and direction while Touran skillfully typed the conversation into his laptop. They left the meeting with tshirts and two DVDs to share with their classmates: 'Dude, Where's My River?', and 'Crown of Thorns Starfish'. We applaud their involvement in meeting the local nonprofits!

May 8, 2005 We had the priviledge of meeting Al Gore at a special screening of An Inconventient Truth to his employees at Current.TV in San Francisco. Its a must-see, must-act motivator. We discussed with him how we think of some environmental films..as today's Newsreels. Back in the 1940s people would go to the theater to find out what was really going on the the world. And now, with An Inconvenient Truth, and What Happened to the Electric Car, people are once again returning to the theater (even with the communication advances made within the past 60 years) to learn more about what is really going on in the world today.
